I’ve been meaning to cover this for so long. How can you not?! Classic nugget of the Oyster.
This is not the entire song but I got a little lazy since I recorded it at 11pm at night. Also, note the amazing auto-tune. I just discovered it while looking through plug-ins.
I am now officially part of the club. Auto-tune = The New Cowbell!
In case you never heard it, the original is here .
This is the same song, but I always liked the original verse that they cut out (which is on the Flying Burrito Brothers version). I did sort of move the verses around to my liking (Shhhh!) :). You can hear the original verse that the Rolling Stones did here . It’s funny because it’s not that easy to find the alternate lyrics, but I think the verse that the Rolling Stones cut is the best of the song besides the melody.
I also made a lil’ video for this cover, my first time doing so! You can watch it here .
Another Eno cover! I guess I’ve been listening to him alot lately, or something! Anyway, it’s also the first time I’ve done a sort of double post (sort of). Anyhow, not much to say, the song is a very good one. Also, I am aware there is distortion on the track, I sort of meant it that way (no really!)
I was sitting home last night and realized it’s been forever since I recorded or posted a cover, and this song had been in my head for days. I really like the chorus (at the end) because it sounds like something that’s been said in a song already, but I have not heard it before myself.
When I was younger, Twin Peaks (the television series) really confused me, but something was deeply intriguing when it came to the scenes with Julee Cruise in them. My sister had the soundtrack to the series and so eventually when I was 10 or so we traded cassettes and I got it. I would mainly listen to “The Nightingale” on Side A and then switch over to Side B to listen to “Into the Night”. I also was listening to Debbie Gibson and Madonna and all of that crap at the time (except I really hated NKOTB thank you). I think we know what overall had a better influence on me.
Moral of the story? Maybe a soundtrack to a David Lynch production is good for children. Better then most of the stuff on the radio. Anyhow, this song I’ve always really liked. You can find more info on Julee at her Myspace page . And another newer musical project that she has worked with in recent years is Pluramon who are really good and you should check out if you haven’t heard of them yet.
This one goes out to Phil Spector. Here is my wall of hot mess sound. I originally was going to cover another Crystals tune, but then decided I’d do this one. When I was looking for lyrics I noticed that Hole and Grizzly Bear have covered this one too, which is cool. Here’s mine.
I started doing photo posts to accompany the song posts but it almost seems too boring, you know? Well pictures of me get rather boring. So the photos are staying, but they will be of animals. Yep, animals. I dont know why either.
I bought the album and the same night decided to do a cover. I guess the album had been out for years but boy have I really been bad at keeping up with new music in the past few years. Lack of money to go buy records has been the main culprit. I guess that’s what happens when you get older, money is spent on the ‘grown-up’ stuff (bills. Blah). But now I have to admit I’ve become obsessed with the Itunes store. If nothing else I can usually afford at least one song.
Anyway, I’m going to start adding links too in the posts, because I like the songs/bands I cover alot, of course. That is the main point of this whole thing. The Egg band .
I’m sure this has been covered tons of times, but I’ve never heard it covered so thought it would be fun to. I think I’ve been watching too much “Six Feet Under” lately.
I dont know why I never thought to cover a Sonic Youth song, seeing as they have probably been most influential on me. I first heard them when I was 13-14 (ok, so I dont recall exactly the first moment as I should) and it pretty much changed my idea of music completely. So here’s a cover of a song from one of my favorite albums of theirs. Also, I thought I would get like 4 or 5 covers done tonight but only got this one done. Oh well.
So I’m wondering, is it so wrong to want to do nothing at all? I just want to make music and that is about it. I have no real desire to do anything else. I do other things, but I have most desire just to create things….I guess I do that. I dont know what I’m talking about right now.
This one’s been covered many a time, I know, but is a great song. I feel like I’ve heard a few other covers and I was trying to cover them as well as Tim’s, and as a result, I’m not sure if I have the voice to carry it, but hey, it’s always worth a try.
It’s freezing outside. Usually that means your brain functions better, for mine it’s still stagnent. I need to work on that. I feel like I’m constantly wasting time but I still cant motivate myself to work on stuff 24/7, but if you have it in you, I feel like it should be expelled, so I must get to it.
I recorded this late last night and I was trying to be quiet as to not wake anyone up, so I turned up the reverb and EQ as a result, so it sounds like, well this.
I really need to get off that darn Twitter account and focus more on this site! I have been out of town for the holidays and have not recorded any new covers…but it’s a new year, it’s time for some new covers. This time a few months ago I had anticipated having at least a hundred covers…come on now…
I always have a warm spot in my heart for NZ musicians, and I was surprized to discover this pop sensation is from there. It’s a pretty brilliant combination of old and new pop. And this song in particular I love! If you like this cover and haven’t heard the original, well you should go listen to the original because it’s better.
I dont get alot of comments on this blog, but when I do it really makes my day. That being said I do get alot of spam comments that I have to ‘approve’ and as a result, I ended up deleting 3 different people’s comments when trying to delete the other 71 spam comments! So if you wrote me and dont see it, it probably accidently got deleted and I’m sorry because I really appreciate your feedback!
Well I couldn’t decide if I wanted to cover “Sugar” or “Rebel Girl” but I opted for RG because I figured anyone who didn’t know Bikini Kill or myself would not get it. Even though it’s a great song. This one is too.
It has been a long time. This is one project that I want to work on every day but I have so many other projects that take more priority. But there’s many songs I love and many songs I have yet to cover….keep tuned please.
I made the Wed. mark! This song had been in my head for awhile, probably since I saw H. Korine’s “Mister Lonely”…I just cant pass up a song about loneliness and isolation, especially when it’s so dreamy and pretty. Why did Akon have to ruin a pretty thing?
Wow, it’s been over a month since I’ve last posted a cover. The whole time I was antsy to record some new covers but was just busy. Hey, it happens. It’s hard to do a cover a day, really it is, believe it or not.
Anyhow, this is a cover of a ‘hot’ new band out and about, they have a really cool Video Remixer for users to create their own video/audio remix (for all you people who fancy yourself a DJ like I do) of this song which you should really check out HERE .
Rock on, more covers to come…one at least by Wed. At least!
Gone away from the blog, and what are you going to do? Do you remember writing letters? Paper and pen style? I used to write letters my whole childhood and teens to connect with people and now it’s a whole different ball game but what a ball game it is and I dont even like sports. Now I’m back. It’s hard to maintain. Really.
Wow, this cover is so old. I dont even know if I should post it, but what the heck, I dont have any new covers and I’ve been slow with posting….so, I hope your ears dont bleed.
I dont know where to begin, everything in this world is a sin. And we are here for some reason or not, and we waste over 20 years starting to realize the evolution of not.
And make it fast, I dont got time to turn on the oven before my hunger fasts. This doesn’t make much sense, and I guess I dont care, because Saturdays are for doing nothing, and I’m doing nothing….ok?
A new cover. I feel like my voice wasn’t quite on key here, but I really like the song (I think by now it’s obvious that I like every song that I cover. I dont know why I keep saying that!). The ‘guits go crazy on this one as well.
I got a parking ticket again, just when I do not need to spend additional money on anything! It was really upsetting, but when can you do except pay and move on? I was trying to justify it with the laws of karma, maybe since I downloaded some songs on the internet for free….maybe I’m paying back the universe….or…..you know….yah, I dont know. Parking tickets suck.
Finally a newly recorded cover! This is by a very fantastic band that used to go by just ‘Dios’ but now goes by ‘Dios (Malos)’. And no, I dont know what that means because I’m stupid and too lazy to find out.
Do the job that you said you’d never do, clean your sports jacket, your khakis and shoes. We got alot of bills to pay, sometimes life isn’t fair and it doesn’t go your way. I’ve been paying dues for nearly 10 years, sometimes it’s really all pointless even in you conquer your fears.
I’m not as pleased with this cover but I actually covered this song a long time ago with a way better version, but now I cant find it. Anyway, this is a placeholder for new songs I’m in the process of recording. But, anyway, the original of course is a classic and it’s one of my favorites to cover.
Generally I’ve some quite good quips about me, but no pen or mental-lock memory. So for today, I give you nothing, and tommorrow something out of my mouth better be divine.
I did this cover probably near the end of last year…I cant remember exactly when but it was way before I decided to make this website. A bit shaky but at least I hit the right notes near the end.
I was watching a show about past life regression yesterday and it was really interesting. It made me want to go get hypnotized and see who I might have been before this life. Too bad it costs so much money to get hypnotized.
I do watch alot of television. Alot. Mostly a bunch of crap. But then there are shows below the grade A crap that even I cant watch. And if I try to watch it I realize that I just cant sit through a minute of it. Same thing with movies.
Perhaps the saddest realization in this existance of life that one can discover is that you can not make another person care about you or anything else if they dont. No matter how loud you scream, no matter how much you talk, if the people you want to look at you dont want to look at you, then you’re all out of luck.
Knowing people is far more lonely then not knowing people at all.
Bam, bam, it hits you all at once, then you switch to your advance, and realize that maybe you can do it, if you keep collaborated, and you stop, drop and roll.
I had a dream about a dog named David last night. It was very interesting. He was a German Shepard mix. Black and some brown underneath. No, he didn’t talk or anything special like that, he was just a dog. And I had to feed him special food. And his name was David, but I’m not sure why. And then after that I was stuck in the middle of this industrial part of town, someone said it was Brooklyn but it looked like another country. I didn’t have enough money for the train.
Another old one but I was happy with my guitar on this one. Thanks to Absolom for the suggestion of keeping it analog, I first started this blog off with the intentions to do all covers all electronically but even I grew tired of that so now I’m going to mix it up. I generally play guitar more then keyboard anyway….
Wow, this cover is actually years old. Since it’s pretty time consuming trying to do at least one cover a day, I’m going to have to go back into my cover archive and post some covers I did literally 4-5 years ago (actually maybe even 6, time/life escapes me often).
And I dont mean that junk in the trunk, I mean your junk in general. My junk resides in my mind mainly, then to the butt. So there’s alot to sweat out.
I’ve been listening to “White Chalk” so much lately…boy is it a great album. I got it when it came out but only really listened to “The Devil” but now I’m enjoying much of the rest of the album. Good lyrics and a pull for something original get me everytime. Go PJ!
Sia has such a unique and pretty voice that covering her, well it’s not that easy to do. So the result ends up more karaoke then an ode, but here ya go!
I cant really do much to make you care if you dont really care. I would love for you to care, but if you dont I cant make you. But please just dont act like you care if you really dont.
Here is my first cover request, from Mr. Isola Todd! Thanks for the suggestion, this is of course a classic song that I really enjoyed covering. Love will tear us apart but it will also put us back together.
Yes, you read correctly, it says “Nicole Richie” in the header. Apperently she covered a song from a boy band of the late ’90’s (LFO, which I think I have actually seen live when I was forced back in ‘98 to go to something in scary Disney world called “Sky Walk” or “City Walk”….I dont remember….I was hovering in someone’s armpit the whole time). Well low and behold, I actually liked this song when I heard it. So all credit due to whoever wrote this song, and if it were indeed someone actually in LFO, congrats on actually attempting to put in some thoughtful metaphor in a pop song.
How can the general public enjoy most of the music on the radio? Really? I’ve been asking myself that question so many times, I can never find a conclusive answer, except that the general American public will buy into anything. Due to a busted cassette player in my car, I am forced to listen to the radio (or enjoy the silence if not) while driving. I’m literally changing station to station at least every 30 seconds.
And you dont seem to care one little bit, but here I am in saddness and all I can do is sit. This time it runs fast, and the clock will keep on ticking, but if this doesn’t mean anything to you then please stop the kicking.
Ah this one just didn’t work out right. I dont know what happened to the keyboard part, or why I couldn’t get the singing part straight…it just didn’t want to combine. But I figure rainbows flow everywhere right?
There are things that I obviously dont want to do when I think some harm will come my way….so I stay away. I dont like putting myself out there but I dont like sitting around wasting away.
Well, it’s been in front of your face this whole time, but you’ve been drunk on your power served with your wine. I am the cracker you put your cheese on, but eventually I will break and it wont be long.
This one just didn’t work out as well as some others, and then I got lazy with just re-recording the vocals and adjusting the effects levels. But maybe if you’re half asleep this will help you fall right to sleep.
