He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss) – The Crystals Cover

May 22nd, 2009 by Synthia Sensate

This one goes out to Phil Spector. Here is my wall of hot mess sound. I originally was going to cover another Crystals tune, but then decided I’d do this one. When I was looking for lyrics I noticed that Hole and Grizzly Bear have covered this one too, which is cool. Here’s mine.

Nation of Ulysses also appropriated the main verse line, and wove it heavily into lyrics of one of their songs on “Plays Pretty for Baby”. Maybe noteworthy, maybe not… but this is definitely one of those songs that draws a lot of critique by participation or appropriation, and from many different sources. How could it not?
